Hollywood Diet
The Hollywood Diet was developed around 1920 in order to help the Hollywood Stars to lose weight. The Hollywood Diet is based on a lot of luxurious foods from that time such as lobster, lamb, shrimps and exotic fruits.
Carbohydrates were, back then, regarded as fattening especially potatoes, bread and grain products. This is why carbohydrates, fat and salt are avoided in the Hollywood Diet.

Evaluation of the Hollywood Diet:
- The Hollywood Diet only permits a low intake of calories (600-800 calories / day) and for this reason one loses weight quickly. However, the radical weight loss caused by the Hollywood Diet lays the foundation for the famous yo-yo effect.
- The principle behind the Hollywood Diet is outdated. Today, carbohydrates are not considered as the cause of being overweight.
- The high levels of protein strain the kidneys. Too much purine (which develops into uric acid) can lead to gout.
- A one-sided diet done over a long period of time can lead to deficiency syndromes.
