Running a marathon is one of the highest physical goals that one can aim for. The 42,195 kilometres (26 miles and 385 yards) are a true challenge. Before you start training for a marathon, you should be aware of certain things.

  • Health: The marathon and the necessary marathon training are extremely demanding on the body. If you already have problems, e.g. with your joints, it is more likely that the marathon training will worsen your condition.
  • Health check-up from the doctor! You should definitely consult a doctor before starting the marathon training. The heart, circulation, musculoskeletal system as well as the muscles need to be able to cope with the strain.
  • Ambition, self-discipline:
    A time-consuming training period of several months is needed in order to participate healthily and successfully in a marathon.  Do you have the necessary ambition to do this?
